Convened Session   Working Together to Create Effective Resilience and Adaptation Networks

Sarah Watson (organizer) — CISA; SC Sea Grant Consortium
Marjorie Kaplan — Rutgers University and the New Jersey Climate Adaptation Alliance
Adam Stein — NOAA Office for Coastal Resources Management and Pacific Risk Management 'Ohana
Liz Fly — South Carolina Chapter of The Nature Conservancy

As communities and regions recognize the importance of working together on resilience and adaptation issues, they are likely to form working groups and networks to help foster that coordination. Creating an effective network that leads to progress is challenging and requirements vary widely depending on how those networks are intended to function. In this session, speakers will talk about the resilience and adaptation networks they have helped foster and share lessons learned for how others can create a more effective process and environment. Speakers will represent networks and alliances created at multiple levels, including the state level (the New Jersey Climate Adaptation Alliance) and the regional level (The Charleston Resilience Network, Pacific Risk Management ‘Ohana). All presenters will discuss how their networks formed, their general operating structure, and discuss lessons learned for what they would advise others trying to create their own network. Following the short presentations, there will be a question and answer session.
